Walk, Cycle, Live Stirling

Stirling Council, as one of the City Region Deal partners, has a strategic vision for a world-class active travel culture, supported by a world-class active travel network. The Walk, Cycle, Live Stirling (WCLS) scheme, officially opened in May 2025, is a vital part of that network and contributes to building an active travel culture—making walking, cycling, and wheeling easier for people of all ages and abilities on Stirling’s city streets.
The WCLS scheme improves active travel provision along two key traffic corridors in Stirling City—namely the University Corridor route connecting the University to Stirling Train Station, and the College Corridor route between Forth Valley College and the city centre. These routes link, through other projects, to the Eastern Villages, the Hillfoots Villages of Clackmannanshire, to Alloa and further to Falkirk, as well as west to the Carse of Stirling villages and the Trossachs.
The scheme represents an investment in more than 6.5 km of dedicated walking, cycling, and wheeling infrastructure. By improving active travel options around the city—specifically connecting public transport destinations to further and higher education facilities—it encourages those travelling to these destinations to choose active travel rather than single-occupancy vehicles. Achieving this shift reduces road traffic and carbon emissions in line with the climate emergency, while also providing a healthier and more cost-efficient mode of transport for users.
